Case: A professor in psychology at a university in a large metropolitan area tells his abnormal psychology class that he is a psychotherapist in private practice. He tells the students that they can come to him for therapy during the duration of the semester.
In your essay, address the following questions. Include references to appropriate ethical codes, and indicate how they are or are not being addressed in this scenario, and the extent to which this impacts the scenario (use the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, 2002). As always, follow APA format.
1) For all individuals involved, including other students in the class, what problems might ensue from the psychologist’s behavior?
2) Are there any violations of the Ethical Code of Psychologists? Speak at length about them and how they may or may not influence the scenario.
3) What actions should be taken (by the psychologist and the students) to correct any problems or violations?
