Psychology Case Study

Lisa Jones is a 49-year-old female who has never been married and has no children. Lisa was diagnosed 16 years ago with paranoid schizophrenia. Lisa is on Medicaid but has been turned down for Social Security benefits. She lives alone in a rural town, but her housing is in jeopardy, as she disrupts the other tenants with her rants. Lisa is not on any medication for schizophrenia and refuses to go to the local community mental health agency for treatment. Lisa denies she has schizophrenia, but when her symptoms are exacerbated, she ends up at the local emergency room or is involuntarily hospitalized. Identify some barriers to Lisa receiving treatment for her schizophrenia. Explain what role the community mental health agency could have in treating Lisa. Describe some other pathways to care that Lisa could take advantage of to treat her illness.
