###### utilitarian benefits of building the Caltex plant in 1977 more important than the possible violations of moral rights and of justice that may be involved?

A piston-cylinder device contains a gas assumed to behave as an ideal gas with constant specific heats. The gas undergoes two processes. First, during process 1 to 2, the gas is at a high pressure P1, low volume V1 and expands to a lower pressure P2, larger volume V2; and during this process pressure and volume are related by PVk = constant where k = Cp/Cv Then, the gas undergoes a constant volume process, V3 = V2, to a final temperature T3 < T2.

The heat transfer to the gas during process 1 to 2 is most nearly, in kJ/kg:

a – Cv(T2-T1)

b – Cp(T2-T1)

c – 0

The heat transferred from the gas during process 2 to 3 is most nearly, in kJ/kg:

a – Cv(T2-T1)

b – Cp(T2-T1)

c – 0

The total work done by the gas on the piston during the combined two processes from 1 to 2 plus 2 to 3 is most nearly, in kJ/kg:

a – Cv(T2-T1)

b – Cp(T2-T1)

c – 0
